Andrea D. "Angie" Jasper, Ph.D.

Andrea D. Jasper, Ph.D., is a Professor of Special Education in the Department of Teacher and Special Education at Central Michigan University (CMU), where she teaches coursework in special education, specifically on intellectual disability, autism spectrum disorder, diversity, equity and inclusion, and transition.

Dr. Jasper has various experiences working with, and advocating for, individuals with exceptional needs. Her research interests focus on learners with disabilities, instructional strategies, and issues of diversity. She has authored or co-authored over 25 publications and has presented her work at multiple international/national, state, and local conferences. Dr. Jasper is actively involved with the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC), in which she currently serves as President. In addition to her association leadership, Dr. Jasper has demonstrated leadership and administrative experience in university settings. She served as chairperson of the Department of Counseling and Special Education at CMU in addition to other leadership positions. Currently, Dr. Jasper serves as the Faculty Diversity and Inclusion Fellow with the Office of Institutional Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at CMU where she participates in professional learning, under the mentorship of the Vice President/Chief Diversity Officer, focused on increasing her understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion issues impacting higher education. Dr. Jasper is very passionate about education and developing leaders. Her previous years of experience at the K-12 level and in higher education contribute to her effectiveness as a teacher educator, leader, and role model for others.

Dr. Jasper earned a B.A. in African American Studies and a M.S.Ed. in Special Education from Purdue University. After working as a special education teacher, she returned to Purdue University and completed her Ph.D. in Special Education in 2011.
