The Michigan Council for Exceptional Children (MCEC)'s core purpose is to strengthen the field of education to impact success for individuals with exceptionalities.

The Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) is the largest international professional organization dedicated to improving the educational success of children and youth with disabilities and/or gifts and talents, internationally renowned for its expertise and leadership, working collaboratively with strategic partners to ensure that all students are valued and fully participating members of society. As a diverse and vibrant professional community, CEC is a trusted voice in shaping education practice and policy.

MCEC's Mission Statement

The mission of the Michigan Council for Exceptional Children (MCEC) is to strengthen the field of education to impact success for individuals with exceptionalities by providing professional development, support, and advocacy for children, youth, families, special, and general educators. 

MCEC also assists and provides support to CEC in all its efforts on behalf of persons with exceptionalities and participates in all appropriate governance activities subject to the general supervision and control of CEC.
