MCEC Student Board

MEET YOUR 2024-2025 STUDENT BOARD

Hannah Hosfelt

Hello! My name is Hannah Hosfelt and I am a senior in the Honors College at Grand Valley State University. I am double majoring in Elementary Education and Special Education with an emphasis in Cognitive Impairment and Autism Spectrum Disorder. I am so excited to finish my undergraduate degree this fall and then to begin work on my M.Ed in Special Education with an ASD emphasis in the winter. This will be my second year serving on the State Board for MCEC and I am also the Membership Chair of the GVSU Chapter. In my free time, I love to volunteer with Camp Sunshine–a summer camp for individuals with Intellectual Disabilities–, try new restaurants, and travel! I look forward to another year serving on this board while working to support children with exceptionalities!

Jaxon Martinez

Hello! My name is Jaxon Martinez and I am a Sophomore at Grand Valley State University. I am double majoring in Elementary Education for PK-6 and Special Education with emphasis in Autism Spectrum Disorder and either Cognitive Impairment or Emotional Impairment. This will be my very first year serving on the Student Board for MCEC. One fun fact about me is that I was diagnosed with ASD at the age of 3. I have had obstacles in my life that many people thought I would never overcome. The reason I am wanting to go into special education is so that I can make a difference and ensure future students do not have to go through what I had to go through. Many of my experiences really could have been completely avoidable. I look forward to my very first year on this board and getting to know all my fellow members.

Mack

Hello! My name is Kaitlyn Mack and I am a senior at Central Michigan University. I am double majoring in Elementary Education for grades PK-3rd and Special Education with a focus in Cognitive Impairments, as well as minoring in Leadership. I am so excited to begin my student teaching for general education this Fall and complete my student teaching for special education prior to graduating in the Spring of 2025. I have held various leadership positions within other education-related organizations on CMU’s campus, such as serving as the previous President and Vice President of Kappa Delta Pi (KDP) International Honor Society of Education, as well as serving as the President of our Connections that Count organization. This will be my third year serving on the Student Board for MCEC. I look forward to another year on this board as I work alongside fellow members who share the same passion for pursuing a career within the special education field.

Hoegen

Hello, my name is Jaahna Hoegen and I am a 4th year at Grand Valley State University! I am double majoring in General Education Upper Elementary 3-6 grade and Special Education K-12 with an emphasis on Autism Spectrum Disorder and Cognitive Impairments. Also while serving on the Student Board for MCEC, I will also be serving my first year as President Elect on the SCEC Chapter at Grand Valley State University. In my free time I love to continue to work with students. I am a cheer coach in Zeeland, MI anywhere from 3rd graders to 8th graders. I am very excited to work on this board and bring whatever I can to and from the Grand Valley Chapter.

Hillier

Hello! My name is Katelyn Hillier, and I am a senior at Grand Valley State University. I am double majoring in general education K-6 and in Special Education K-26. My two endorsements are Cognitive and Emotional Impairments. I am super excited to be in my last year of student teaching, wrapping up my time at Grand Valley which has been nothing short of amazing! In my free time I love to be up at home with my family in Traverse City, so going out on the water, exploring and hanging out with my friends and family! I am looking forward to being a new member of this board, and learning more about it and interacting with people that have the same interests and passions as me.
